Trent on the honor roll

The snow kept this from happening earlier, but we finally got the report cards last week. Trent was able to make honor roll again this quarter and had his honor roll assembly this morning. As you can see from the girl standing to Trent’s right, there were certificates handed out, but of course in true Trent style, he didn’t pose with for the picture while he was on stage. Oh well, maybe I’ll get him to pose for one when he gets home.

Our cute kitty taking on a stuffed mouse

Our kitty OJ was trying to catch his stuffed mouse, but found that it was “hiding” under the dog food feeding stand.

Wednesday and Thursday too…

That’s right, in case you didn’t hear, Stafford County Schools are closed on Wednesday and Thursday this week… AND if they make it to school on Friday, it looks like they aren’t getting out early…

The post office is having issues…

As you can see, the post office has had to put chains on the trucks so that they can make their deliveries. The still can’t make it down our street (Still covered in snow off to the left).

Have you had enough yet?

That’s right folks, more winter weather is on the way.  I thought that we were going to be able to dodge the snow bullet this week, but alas, the weather service has changed their minds.  Apparently no one is safe from this one either.  At first, the winter storm warning was for the counties north of us, but it looks like today at noon, the weather models reached a tipping point. I didn’t know storms could explode, but I guess we’ll see.

So, have you had enough yet?  If not, why? I think this week we’re going to have a Top 3 Tuesday…

We’ve made some progress

As you can see, Beth isn’t very happy to be living here right now. As a matter of fact, both the kids are a bit disgruntled when it comes the the after effects of the snow. Between the kids, Jason and I, we have made it about half way down the driveway. Although its not going to do much good. I can say with certainty that I’m not making out of the neighborhood tomorrow for work. Not that I mind another day working from home, but I have to admit I think I will enjoy getting back to the normal routine of life. I’m sure with the amount of the snow and the problems VDOT is having with the main roads, we won’t see the plow of freedom for a few more days.  The good thing is that if you haven’t had a plow in your neighborhood by Wednesday, they have asked that you call in.

If by Wednesday, residents have not seen a plow in their subdivision, they can call 703-383-VDOT or e-mail novainfo@vdot.virginia.gov with the location. Photos are also welcomed. Crews will be dispatched to treat missed spots and problem areas.

Oh, and did I mention that it is really cold out there today. When you’re working on digging out, it isn’t bad, but if you stop for a moment, all bets are off. My arm is killing me too. The forearm between the elbow and the wrist. I am not in the proper condition for snow shoveling season… lol.

And a new week begins…. sort of.

All Stafford County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 8 and Tuesday, February 9, 2010.  Employees will be on Code 1.

All school activities, day and evening are canceled.  Students will not attend.  Schools and school division offices are closed.  All non-school activities, day and evening are canceled including adult education, college classes and recreational programs scheduled in school buildings and on school grounds.

The Behind-the-Wheel Parent Session at Mountain View scheduled for Monday evening is canceled and will be rescheduled.

More Snow

Update:
Well, it looks like we are thankfully going to miss getting the snow next weekend. I love the snow and all, but this is getting to be a bit much. I’m ready for the kids to go back to school already.

After this season, I think anything under 6 inches of snow is going to be seen as a dusting.  Just as the Blizzard snowpocalypse 2010 winds down, look what we have in store for Valentine’s day.

Jason says I’m crazy and that 3 inches is still going to strand us in the house for three days.  Well, he is right about that.  I was looking at the traffic cameras to see what I-95 is looking like.  In the dark I can’t really tell much.  It seems like the road is clear, cars are at least moving on 95, but I can’t tell how fast they are going and if they are traveling on pavement or just packed now.

Why is it so hard to get what you order?

Dear McDonald’s (or Burger King, Outback, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, etc…),

When I ask for a change to a menu item on my order, there is a reason.   I’m not being difficult or demanding, I just want it My Way, don’t you want to See Me Smile?  If you want me to Think Outside the Bun and make a Run for the Boarder for a Fourth Meal, just give me what I ask for.  If your employees need additional training, please give it to them.  If you have to, Live Adventurous(ly) and hire people that can read a ticket and cook what I ordered.  You know When It’s Real when it’s right!

I’m tired and fed up that when I go out to get my food, even the simplest requests aren’t being accommodated. This isn’t an isolated problem.  I can’t say how many times I’ve gone through the drive-thru and either did not receive an item that I ordered and paid for, or what I received was not what I asked for.  The quality control and attention to detail really needs some work.

Here is an example of what I’m talking about:

I HATE eggs cooked by other people.  I just worry about food born illness and I’m not thrilled with the way they taste.  So when I go out to get breakfast from a fast food establishment, I order all my breakfast sandwiches with NO EGG. This is not a hard request, it should actually save time since employees don’t have to add the egg or heat it up as long.  All I want is the bread, meat and cheese.  However, this request apparently really confuses the fast food technicians you hire. This morning, on a quick trip to McDonald’s, I ordered two egg McMuffins, with no egg.  I don’t know how its so hard, my order was correct on the receipt AND there was a special tag printed off and placed on my wrapper (see the pictures below) to tell the person putting my food together to not put the egg on (the no folded annotation).  How in the world can you not see this when putting together? But apparently it was since I got eggs on both my McMuffins… see picture below.  Now it wouldn’t have been so bad, but in this case not only did I GET eggs, but the Canadian bacon was left OFF.  So I got what I didn’t want, and I didn’t get what I wanted.  That’s a royally big screw up.  It takes some real talent to get that confused so badly.

I understand that you have to work fast, but just because I want my food fast doesn’t mean that I want it wrong.  So from now on, every time I get an order screwed up, I’m going to write about it.  Why should I have to suffer alone? I urge you, the public, to join me and let these restaurants know what they’re doing isn’t right.  It isn’t acceptable. I’m not going to threaten to not eat there anymore, because frankly I need fast food sometimes cause I’m a busy working mother that sometimes just can’t cook a full meal like I would like to.  Empty threats aren’t the way to make a change, but I believe that if enough of us let the fast food chains know what we think, maybe there will be some changes. So please, if your reading this, pass it along to your friends and family.  Take the time to contact restaurants that mess up your orders. I have listed some of the Twitter and Facebook accounts of some fast food and family restaurants that I go to.  Unfortunately, the customer satisfaction phone numbers that usually come on your receipt is just a marketing poll, there is no way to actually lodge a complaint. So Twitter and Facebook these establishment… let the world know how you feel.

Thank you for reading my rant,

Lesley
