Top 3 Tuesday: October 20, 2009

Halloween is right around the corner.  It is the “holiday” that I like to think kicks off the season.  Fall is in full swing, and Thanksgiving (my favorite) is right around the corner.  The kids love to dress in costumes and, let’s face it, the candy is excellent.  So in honor of this sweet day, my question is:

What are your top 3 Halloween treats?  Mine are:

  1. Snickers
  2. Mr. Good bars
  3. Reese’s peanut butter cups

What are your top 3 breakfast cereals? Mine:

  1. Cocoa Pebbles
  2. Frosted mini-Wheats
  3. Golden Grams

Who’s got the hand sanitizer?

October 7, 2009 Lesley Reynolds 2 comments

I know that the terrorists have been quiet lately so we need a new enemy to focus our attention .  The FLU is becoming the new three-letter bad word.  The world is waging war on a new common enemy, and its getting really out of control.

I understand that its important to practice good personal hygiene to help inhibit the spread of the flu virus, but really, is all this necessary?  The nightly news is bombarding us daily with statistics of flu vaccine doses available down to the neighborhood.  Likewise, the office build I work in has gone mad with anti-bacterial aids. I can’t walk 20-feet down the hall with out running into a hand sanitizer dispensing station or an anti-bacterial wipe center.  This has got to stop!

I like to have clean hands as much as the next person, but with the way things are going, the building is going to erect a hazmat cleaning tent with air locks at the entrance.s  All I can say is, if you’re sick please stay home and don’t touch my food.  Other wise, I think we’ll all be O.K.

I was asked by a friend to post some of my photography.  I am an armature at best, and probably just at novice on a good day.  The one thing about photography is that I’m always looking for something that will take my breath away, then I want to capture it so I can keep it forever.  I know very little about the technical aspects of photography, and the physics involved with composing a photograph.  Exposure, forget about it.  But when I find that one image out of hundreds that I’ve taken, I smile, and I’m happy. So here is a sample of the pictures that I love from over the years.

I have a butterfly bush outside my office window.

Raid Log #2 (To Naxx and beyond) – October 3, 2009

October 3, 2009 Lesley Reynolds 2 comments

Healer’s Log -

This week was one of turmoil, strife, and sweet sweet success. It was one of those weeks where the majority of things didn’t go as planed, both in and out of game.

Yelsel: “Oh crap… Oh crap, oh crap oh crap.”
Inner Voice: “Whats wrong?”
Yelsel: “Something just isn’t right, I’m off tonight.”
Inner Voice: “Of course something’s off… people are dying. Isn’t it your job to keep the Raid alive?”

Monday(28 Sep 2009) -  OH CRAP! (25-man team)

Of course we formed up late and we had a hard time getting the raid filled.  Its harder than you think to get 25-people together for anything.  Tonight, I assumed my role as the team’s “librarian” of sorts.  I am in charge of cataloging what loot drops, and who rolls on it.  That way we can better gauge where the most appropriate upgrades are coming from.  Tonight seemed to go better than I expected.  We all kept the chatter in Vent down to a minimum during the boss fights.  I decided that I was going to take it upon myself to remind people to stay hushed during the actual fighting with my mommy voice.  It seemed to help.  We were able to clear Naxx and even downed KT.  That would be a big accomplishment for any team, especially a newly formed 25-man group.  As healing goes, it seems that things went surprisingly well.  I don’t remember any wipes, but then again I could just push them from my memory – oh wait, we did wipe on Thadius (this is my favorite boss fight).  We got him the second time around though.

Thursday (01 Oct 2009) -  INDY (10-man team)

Yelsel: This isn’t going well, I’ve already wiped on the trash
Inner Voice: Oh come on… I know we can do this.  We had Ignis down to 4% last Friday and that was with just the 2 tanks, a healer and a DPS at the end!  Ok?
Yelsel: Where do I stand again?
Inner Voice:  Just don’t stand in the fire, I really hate that when you do that.  And for the love of all that is WoW, please use the Warlock cookie!
Group: Hey, where are our priest buffs?

Oh yeah folks.  INDY went into Ulduar this week with guns a blazin’  Of course FL is cake now and we’re even doing the Zerg method of taking him down with much success.  We’re just rolling through the first boss like he’s nothing.  However, this night was special.  Instead for taking down XT, or even Razorscall, the group decided to face out Uldua arch enemy.  Yes lasies and nerds, we went in to take on the crotch pot, Ignis.

Now Ignis is one ornery son of a gun.  We’ve been trying as a team to get through this fight.  And we celebrated each attempt by standing in line for Mentus’ mammoth for repairs.  Lots and LOTS of repairs.  Unfortunately the evening started off like all the others before – crazy strong trash that likes to stun and through out these fire tornadoes!  I’m mean really, not one of you can tell me it doesn’t get any better then being flung up against a wall repeatedly by fire tornadoes. (sarcasm)

So we immediately die… what’s the problem?  Who knows, every one is dead again.  So what do we do?  Apparently the answer was to bring in a 3rd tank.  Mentus was kiting Ingis as he was supposed to.  Auuggo was grabbing adds and putting them in the pool, and the DPS was rockin’ the shatters.  So what was missing?  Apparently with our third tank , Astarian, in the rotation, he was able to pick up 1/2 the adds and lead them to the pool so that Auuggo could get some help.  This way the tanks only had to cover half the distance.

We began to make some real gains after making the personnel shift.  It started to get really exciting when I looked down and saw that Ignis’s health meter was down to 10%.  We were at 10% and counting with hardly any deaths and I still had mana!

Raid Log #1 (The Introduction) – September 24, 2009

October 3, 2009 Lesley Reynolds 1 comment

(Think “Captain’s Log”… he he he)

Welcome to the first instalment of “Raid Logs”. These logs will be a narrative account of the exploration, tribulations and triumphs of the Alea Iacta Est (AIE) raiding teams that I am involved with, from the healer’s perspective. Right now I heal for two raid teams: I’m Not Dead Yet (INDY) (10-man) and Ornately Heroic Champions, Raiders And Pwners! (OH CRAP!) (25-man). Although each team has its on wiki page that details the nuts and bolts of the team’s progression, I feel that the real story of the courage and heroism of the team members gets lost. You know what I mean, the heart stopping adventures and tales that become legend. This is what I hope to share with you here. Most likely these logs won’t be a daily, but I raid four nights a week, so there should be at least an entry a week. I am also planning on having some guest contributors.

Well Autumn looks to be upon us, and I know everyone is looking forward to the holidays; particularly to get some rest and relaxation.  The mornings are getting darker and cooler, and it seems like the world wants to run a little slower.  Since life just doesn’t slow down, sometimes we need a little pick-me-up in the morning.  Please play along.

So, for this Top 3, I was wondering what’s your favorite morning pick-me-up beverage?

Mine:

1. Coffee

2. Diet Pepsi Max

3. Orange Juice

OH CRAP!

September 22, 2009 Lesley Reynolds Leave a comment

“Oh crap!”

“Oh crap!”

“Oh crap!”

I’ve been known to say “Oh crap!” a time or two in Vent while running instances or on raids.  Apparently I like to say “Oh crap!” a lot.  So much in fact it is now our 10-man raid team’s defacto raid warning.  One of my team members has dubbed “Oh crap!” as the Yelsel Early Warning System (YEWS).  If YEWS hears “Oh crap!”, that means “Run Away Little Girl!”, and fast.

Recently, “Oh crap!” has been taken to the next level.  Apparenlty it has become such an endearing catch phrase, that it is now the name of a 25-man raid team.  That’s right, “Oh crap!” is the marraiage of the Air Speed Velocity (ASV) and the I’m Not Dead Yet (INDY) 10-man raid teams.  If you’re wondering, “Oh crap!” is the acronym for Ornately Heroic Champions, Raiders And Pwners!  I think it fits us pretty well.

We have a blast.  I’m really enjoying the content in game lately.  It has gotten harder for sure, but there is nothing better than seeing a boss’s health at 0% with 25K left to go, one tank, no DPS and maybe a healer take him down just as the enrage timer hits 0.  I’ve been in a lot of those fights lately.

So, next time you’re running around Azeroth, the Outlands, or Northrend, and you hear an “Oh crap!”, stop what you’re doing, and run.  You’ll thank me for it.
